Το χορτάρι βάφτηκε... κόκκινο από το αίμα αθώων ψυχών! Ο τελικός του πρωταθλήματος της Ονδούρας μεταξύ της Μοτάγκουα και της Ονδούρας Προγκρέσο είχε χαρακτηριστεί ως ένα ματς-διαφήμιση για το ποδόσφαιρο της χώρας καθώς το αποτέλεσμά του θα έκρινε τον τίτλο όμως αυτό που έγινε πριν από την έναρξή προκάλεσε σοκ στην παγκόσμια ποδοσφαιρική κοινή γνώμη.

Εκατοντάδες οπαδοί επιχείρησαν να σπάσουν παλιά προστατευτικά κιγκλιδώματα για να μπουν στο γήπεδο "Tiburcio Carías Andino" και η αστυνομία στην προσπάθειά της να τους απωθήσει, έριξε δακρυγόνα, με το κακό να μην αργεί να έρθει.

Η ρίψη δακρυγόνων προκάλεσε πανικό, με ανθρώπους να ποδοπατούνται και τέσσερις εξ αυτών να χάνουν τη ζωή τους (εκπρόσωπος του νοσοκομείου όπου διακομίσθηκαν αρκετοί οπαδοί, ανέφερε πως μεταξύ των νεκρών ήταν και ένα μωρό) ενώ οι καταμετρημένοι τραυματίες έφτασαν τους 25, με τους περισσότερους να έχουν πολλαπλά σπασμένα οστά.

Από που ξεκίνησαν όλα; Από το γεγονός ότι το γήπεδο ήταν ασφυκτικά γεμάτο από 30.000 κόσμο, με πλήθος κόσμου που βρισκόταν έξω από αυτό να προσπαθεί πάση θυσία να εισβάλλει εντός γηπέδου και να μην αποφεύγεται μία ποδοσφαιρική τραγωδία.

Για την ιστορία, η Μοτάγκουα επικράτησε 3-0 και αναδείχτηκε πρωταθλήτρια, με τον πρόεδρό της να δηλώνει πάντως με ειλικρίνεια πως "δεν υπάρχει κάτι να γιορτάσουμε μετά από όσα συνέβησαν".
