Ο Στέφανος Τσιτσιπάς έκανε το αδιανόητο και νίκησε τον κορυφαίο τενίστα όλων των εποχών, όπως τον επιλέξατε στο σχετικό poll του Contra.gr, Ρότζερ Φέντερερ.

Ο 20χρονος Έλληνας νίκησε τον κάτοχο 20 major και πρωταθλητή στο αυστραλιανό όπεν τις δύο τελευταίες χρονιές κι ενώ όδευε για την 7η κατάκτηση που θα συνιστούσε ρεκόρ.

Λίγες ημέρες αφότου είχε ηττηθεί στο Hopman Cup στο Περθ, ο Τσιτσιπάς είχε πάνω κάτω τις ίδιες πιθανότητες και στο πιο υψηλό παλκοσένικο, αυτό ενός grand slam.

Ο 37χρονος Ελβετός δεν υποτίμησε τον αντίπαλό του, έπαιξε καλά, όμως ο Τσιτσιπάς απέδειξε γιατί πριν από την έναρξη του τουρνουά βρισκόταν μόνο 12 θέσεις πίσω από τον Φέντερερ στην κατάταξη της ATP (3 έναντι 15) και γιατί μετά από το τέλος του αγώνα τους, κέρδισε ήδη 2 θέσεις.
